Art Deco Deconstructed

My eye has always gravitated towards architectural details, in particular those from the Art Deco movement of the early 20th century, which emphasize rich colors, geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation. I was primarily interested in composing my images in a way which simplified the subjects by using symmetry and repetitive patterns - additional characteristics of the Art Deco style. Art Deco is found worldwide, and as a travel photographer I was able to explore cities rich in Art Deco architecture including Cincinnati, Chicago, and even as far as Sydney, Australia.

Photographer: Ria Waugh

Ria purchased her first “serious” digital camera several years ago because as a Realtor, she saw the benefit of using her own images in her real estate listings. Over time, Ria found she had a keen interest in learning more about the art of photography and it became an extension of the natural curiosity she has to explore the world around her. Besides photography, Ria’s greatest passion is travel, so she is happiest when she can capture the immense diversity and beauty of our world…whether it is on the other side of the globe or closer to home.
